Worker Health Initiative

• The Challenge: Workers in Bangladesh's vital ready-made garment (RMG) industry face significant occupational health risks, including respiratory illness from textile dust and ergonomic injuries, but there is limited data to guide factory-level health policies.

• Our Approach: This initiative is a mixed-methods study combining confidential worker health surveys with on-site environmental assessments in partner factories. We are analyzing the links between specific workplace exposures and health outcomes to create a new evidence base for occupational health in the RMG sector.

• Key Outcomes:

  • Published the first foundational report on the prevalence of respiratory conditions in our partner factories.

  • Currently developing a new, co-designed safety training module with factory managers and worker representatives.
