Our Mission

Our mission is to safeguard the health of the people of Bangladesh by providing independent, evidence-based research and strategic guidance to solve the nation's most critical public health challenges. We believe that every citizen has the right to a healthy life, and that rigorous, unbiased science is the foundation for achieving that right. We work in partnership with government, academia, and international organizations, always maintaining our scientific independence to ensure our findings are credible and our recommendations are driven solely by data.

Our Story: A New Model for Public Health

The Institute of Epidemiology and Disease Control was founded on a simple but powerful idea: that an independent, agile, and scientifically-driven organization could accelerate public health progress. Established by a group of leading epidemiologists, data scientists, and public health professionals who saw a need for a partner outside of traditional structures, our institute was created to bridge the gap between raw data and life-saving policy.

As a non-profit, non-governmental organization, we have the flexibility to innovate and respond quickly to emerging health threats. We are proud to serve as a trusted, objective voice, providing the data and analysis that empower our partners to act decisively and effectively.

Our Approach: How We Turn Data Into Action

Our work is defined by a three-part approach that ensures our research leads to tangible, real-world impact.

1. Independent, Evidence-Based Research At the heart of our work is rigorous, unbiased research. We specialize in conducting large-scale epidemiological studies that uncover the root causes of disease and health disparity. A landmark example of this is our analysis of data from over 10,000 households; this independent research provided the foundational evidence that was instrumental in shaping Bangladesh's National Maternal Health Strategy.

2. Strategic Policy Influence Data is only powerful when it leads to action. We excel at translating complex findings into clear, compelling policy recommendations. We led the analysis and policy recommendations for non-communicable disease (NCD) programs that helped our partners achieve a measurable 8% increase in vaccination coverage across seven underperforming districts, proving that data-driven guidance can lead to tangible health improvements.

3. Health Systems Strengthening We are committed to building a more resilient public health ecosystem for the future. This includes building capacity from within; our senior analysts supervise and mentor teams of data officers, implementing new protocols that have cut the turnaround time for national surveillance reports by 35%. We also collaborate directly with IT and informatics experts to design and upgrade public health database architectures, fundamentally improving data integration speed by 25% and enhancing program performance measurement across the country.

Our Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the Institute of Epidemiology and Disease control aims to be a leader in tackling emerging health threats, from the health impacts of climate change to the complexities of urban health and non-communicable diseases. We will continue to innovate, collaborate, and advocate for a future where every policy is informed by data and every citizen in Bangladesh has the opportunity to live a long, healthy life.
